As you've probably gathered from my posts by now, every other one is a mantra to be recited. These are not statements by the author - these are meant to be said like prayers by the reader. I write them here only because I myself need to hear them.⠀ 🌾⠀ I accept myself just as I am.⠀ 🌾⠀ Were more radical words ever said? I say this to folks and - more often than not - they push back with: "But what about personal development? What about growth and improvement? If I accept myself, won't I just become complacent and apathetic?"⠀ 🌾⠀ NO. You MUST accept things before you can ever hope to truly change them. If we don't have a reference point that is true, how can we ever aspire to make aligned adjustments that will diminish our suffering? ⠀ 🌾⠀ Sometimes self-acceptance means expressing compassion towards yourself for the things that are our of your control - growing up poor, not having the parents you deserved, or not receiving the skills or wisdom you wish you had.⠀ 🌾⠀ And we must release attachment to PROGRESS. Life is not a straight line - it is a circle. Nature, death, Winter, everything around us should serve as reminders that everything is cyclical. What matters is our response - and we only have two choices: accept or resist.⠀ 🌾⠀ When we choose acceptance, something magical happens: we make peace in our minds. A peaceful mind is a quiet mind, one that is aware of its surroundings and the present moment. This is a state of non-suffering.⠀ 🌾⠀ When we choose resistance, on the other hand, suffering is ever-present. Fear mind takes over and delusion sets in. We are constantly working to change, to fix, to get more more MORE. ⠀ 🌾⠀ So which do you choose?⠀ 🌾⠀ #acceptance #accept #selfacceptance #selfcare #selflove #selfcompassion #presence #suffering #peace #mantra #mantras
I sometimes sit rigidly upright in my meditation. Other times, I allow my intuition to guide my movement. Sometimes I find myself rocking from side to side, stretching, or needing to adjust my sitting, standing or lying down. ⠀ 🙏⠀ I understand there are benefits to keeping still. Avoiding stillness is avoiding the things you don't want to accept - most central being the experience of your body in the present moment.⠀ 🙏⠀ But after sitting still and reaching a state of presence, sometimes my body is asking to move, to flow, to express itself. When I reach the point where I can either stifle and control my body or allow it to be through movement, I go with the latter. Often it leads to a deeper state of presence and self-gratitude.⠀ 🙏⠀ How do you sit for your meditation practice? Do you find bliss through stillness or movement? I'd love to hear!⠀ 🙏⠀ #meditate #meditation #stillness #sitting #mindfulness #embodiment #practice #bodyintelligence #intuition
Generate Self-Compassion NOW:⠀ 💞⠀ ♦️Close your eyes.⠀ ♦️Place your hand on your heart. (This is your pledge of compassion.)⠀ ♦️Breathe in.⠀ ♦️Breathe out.⠀ ♦️Say to yourself, "I'm sorry ___ is hard right now. We will get through this. I'm here for you, and I love you."⠀ 💞⠀ If that's too much for you, connect with the part of yourself that INTENDS to care for yourself. The part of you reading this post:⠀ 💞⠀ ♦️Why do you want to care for yourself?⠀ ♦️What would happen if you cared for yourself?⠀ Often just reflecting on these questions will begin to ignite the spark of seeing yourself through the eyes of love.⠀ 💞⠀ Take it easy. Don't judge yourself if compassion doesn't flow right away. Sometimes tears and pain come out first - the love is just behind those. Sometimes fear, shame and blame - wait it out and see what's behind it. Sometimes it takes moments, sometimes it takes a lifetime.⠀ 💞⠀ #selflove #selfcare #selfcompassion #eyesoflove #connection
A shopping story on Black Friday...⠀ 🛍️⠀ I used to have horrible buyer's remorse. After walking the aisles of brightly colored merchandise, I would give in to the general pull of longing toward no item in particular, swipe my card, and *instant regret*.⠀ 🛍️⠀ Now I understand this to be a symptom of severed belonging. I craved external things to bring me internal joy, and crashed the moment I unconsciously realized they never could.⠀ 🛍️⠀ As I practice non-attachment, it's interesting how much I allow myself to feel the pull of beautiful things. A sweater, mug, pair of earrings. I'm drawn in, but from a different place. It's like my higher self recognizes her style. The feminine goddess within me has desires in alignment. And there's nothing wrong with desire. I like to practice Tantra, and ask myself, "How do I know this brings me pleasure?"⠀ 🛍️⠀ Whether I purchase the item or not is the result of a mindfulness practice. I must consider usefulness, longevity, the joy it will spark in my life, and whether or not I can afford it. Is it worth as much to me as the time it took to earn the money? If yes, I purchase without regret. ⠀ 🛍️⠀ Every time I feel that guilt and shame attachment creeping back in, I stop it in its tracks and remind myself: "This <object> sparks joy deep in my soul. I don't need it to be fulfilled, but I'm grateful to bring it into my life. I will be a responsible steward, and charge it with the energy of love."⠀ 🛍️⠀ #mindfulness #blackfriday #shopping #buyersremorse #guilt #shame #moneyshame #money #attachment #selfcare #selflove
🙏💞5 HEALTH BENEFITS OF GRATITUDE💞🙏 ⠀ [Adapted from PositivePsychology.com]⠀ 🙏⠀ 1. GRATITUDE HELPS YOU SLEEP💤⠀ Gratitude has been shown to improve sleep quality, decrease the amount of time needed to fall asleep, and increase sleep duration (Happier Human, 2018). 🙏 2. GRATITUDE MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD IN YOUR BODY💪⠀ Gratitude has been found to result in better coping and management of terminal conditions such as cancer and HIV, as well as faster recovery from particular medical procedures and positive changes in immune system functioning (Happier Human, 2018). ⠀ 🙏⠀ 3. GRATITUDE MAY HELP YOU LIVE LONGER💫⠀ Although not technically ‘proven’ to be the case, the evidence suggests that gratitude may lead to a longer life. This is because optimism and positive emotion have been used to successfully predict mortality decades later, and gratitude is strongly correlated with positive emotion (Happier Human, 2018).⠀ 🙏 4. GRATITUDE GIVES YOU ENERGY💥⠀ Grateful people are much more likely to report physical and mental vigor (Happier Human, 2018). One study of 238 people found a correlation of .46 between vitality and gratitude (Happier Human, 2018). Another large study, of 1662 people, also found correlations greater than .3 between vitality and gratitude after controlling for levels of extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism and perceived social desirability (Happier Human, 2018).⠀ 🙏⠀ 5. GRATITUDE LEADS TO ACTIVITY🏃⠀ It is now common understanding that exercise provides a huge benefit to both physical and psychological health. Gratitude makes people more likely to exercise. It was found, in an 11-week study of 96 Americans, that those who were instructed to keep a weekly gratitude journal spent an extra 40 minutes exercising than the control group (Happier Human, 2018).⠀ 🙏⠀ #gratitude #grateful #blessings #positivepsychology #thanksgiving #november #gratitudemonth #gratitudeweek #happythanksgiving #attitudeofgratitude #gratitudejournal #gratitudepractice
